What can cause airway obstruction?
A
Altered consciousness, vomit, swelling/anaphylaxis, trauma, foreign bodies, laryngospasm.

What is laryngospasm?
A
A spasm of the vocal cords. Casually due to asthma, gastroesophogael reflux disease (GERD) or vocal cord dysfunction.

What is tracheal intubation?
A
Placement of flexible plastic tube into the trachea to maintain airway or administer medication. (caution - make sure it doesn’t enter esophagus).

How do you measure an OPA?
A
Corner of mouth to angle of mandible, or maxillary incisors to angle of mandible.

How do you measure an NPA?
A
Tip of the nose to the tip of the earlobe. Consider diameter.
