Competency 012 Flashcards
What are the two main types of assessments?
Informal and Formal
What are the three levels of reading proficiency levels?
independent, instructional, frustration
Independent Level
student reads 95% of the words correctly
Instructional Level
reads 90%-94% of the words correctly; which means the child can preform satisfactory with help from the teacher
Frustration Level

Informal Reading Inventories
informal assessment instruments designed to identify the reading levels of children
Examples of informal reading inventories
comprehension questions; retell a story; observations; checklist; anecdotal records; portfolios
Miscue Analysis
an assessment procedure to assess oral reading
Formative Evaluation
occurs during the process of learning when the teacher or the students monitor progress while it is still possible to modify instruction
Summative Evaluation
occurs at the end of a specific time or course of study; a single grade or score to represent a student’s performance
Criterion-Referenced Test (CRT)
teacher attempts to measure each student against uniform objectives or criteria; students are not competing against each other
Norm-Referenced Test (NRT)
purpose is to compare the performance of groups of students; this test is competitive because a limited number of students can score well
Performance-Based Test
assess students on how well they perform certain tasks; allow students to be creative in solutions to problems or questions, and it requires them to use higher-level skills
Authentic Assessments
projects, observations, checklists, anecdotal records, portfolios, self-assessments, and peer assessments
Rubric
a checklist with assigned point values
