Defend from threats. (hard to be compassionate when fearful)

Compassion is not like what?
A
Not like turning a switch
Is influenced by environmental factors, if someone looks sad and is being ignored, you will likely ignore.
If someone is stressed burnt out, is it likely they will be compassionate? No
Compassion is conditional: likability/similarity to someone; stress/pressure; environment
