Compartments of the Leg Flashcards
what are the compartments of the leg?
Anteriro (extensor)
laterl (fibular)
posteriro (flexor)
divided by the interpossoesu membrane betwene the tibia and fibula
as well as two intramucualr septums of the legs (AC and PC)
the Anteriro compartment of the LEg role?
dorsiflexion!
what is this muscle
describe its proximal and distal attachments
TIbialis anterior
action- dorsilfexes ankle and inverts the foot
what is this muscles name and action- where does it attahc distally?
extensor digitorum longus
Actiomn- dorskflexs ankle and latreral 4 digits
(atataches to distal and middle phalanges)
what is this muscle?
action and proxima/distal attachment?
Extensor hallucis longus
Action- dorsiflexes ankle and extends the great toe!
proximal- anteiror surfacve of fibula and IM
Distal- dorsal aspect of base of diatl phalanx of great toe (hallux)
what is this small muscels name and action - where does it attach ?
Fibularis teritus
action- dorsiflexes ankle and aids in eversion of foot
Proximal- fibula and IM
distal- dorsum of base of 5th metatarsal
Label the muscles of the anteriro leg
which nerve innervates the Anteriro comparmetn of the Leg?
Deep fibular (perineal) nerve
accompanies the anteiror tibial artery between the TA and EDL
lesions here can cause foot drop and instability of ankel
what is the predominant action fo muscles in the lateral compartment of the leg
Evert the foot and weakly plantar flexes ankle
what is this muscle?
attachments?
proximall- fibula
distall
base of the 1st metatarsal and medial cuneform
what is this muscle?
attachments?
fibularis longus
attachment- fibula and laterasl side of base of 5th metatarsal
Label the lateral compartment of the leg
Describe the nerve supply to the lateral compartmetn of the leg
SUPERficial fibrular (peroneal) branch
Describe blood supply to the lateral compartment of the leg
no artery in the lateral comaprmtent
perforating branches supply blood to this compartment
Proximally- anteirro tibial artery
infeirro- fibular artery
what is the role of the superfical msucles of the posteriro compartmetn of the leg
describe there attachment distally
Plantar flexros
all atched distally on the posterior surface of calcaneus- via the calcaneal tendon (achilles
