Compartment Syndrome Flashcards
0
Q
Causes
A
IRI CHEF
- Crush Injuries (extensive soft tissue injury)
- Haematoma (intracompartmental)
- Electric Burns
- Fractures
- Ischaemic reperfusion injury
1
Q
Definition
A
Increased oseofascial compartment pressure leading to manifestation of nerve and muscle ischemia
2
Q
Clinical Findings
A
- Pain (out of proportion)
- Parasthesia
- Paralysis
- Pallor
- Pulselessness
- Tense, swollen limb
- Late = Volkmann’s Contracture
3
Q
Diagnosis
A
Frequent monitoring of high risk limbs
Definitive diagnosis = Compartment pressure exceeds capillary perfusion pressure
4
Q
Treatment
A
Fasciotomy
