Comparison Or Approaches: Social Learning Flashcards
Nature/ nurture
Nurture because it emphasises the role of environmental influences and learning from others in shaping behaviour, due to the 4 mediational processes
Behaviour is learnt through observational learning rather than being solely influenced by innate biological factors
Behaviour is acquired thru exposure to external social influences
Reductionist/ holistic
Reductionist because it simplifies complex cognitive processes into 4 meditational processes as an explanation for behaviour, ignoring the biological and cognitive factors influencing behaviour. Focuses solely on observable behaviours rather than internal mental processes which cannot be directly observed .
Reduces behaviour to a set of learned responses
Deterministic/ free will
Deterministic because is suggests that behaviour is primarily shaped by external influences specifically role models or environmental influences. Leaving little to no room for free will in how people behave , as behaviour is explained through the 4 mediational proscesses
Treating abnormal behaviour
Positive reinforcement : reward desirable characteristics to increase the likelyhood of them repeating, reinforcing more adaptive and appropriate behaviour patterns
