Q

Nature/ nurture

A

Both
Nature: innate biological drives , Freud theory argues that human behaviour is larger driven by innate biological instincts. For example Freud emphasises the unconscious mind which is formed in early lode, suggesting that behaviour is influenced by natural inborn drives rather than environmental influences
Nurture: emphasis on early childhood experiences in shaping behaviour as they play a crucial role in the development of the unconscious mind, especially early experiences with parents , influences adult relationships and mental Health

Q

Reductionist/ holistic

A

Holistic
Emphasises the intergration of different parts of the mind and how they interact with each other to influence behaviour
For example the interactions of the 3 components of personality, the id, ego and super ego, all different parts but come togegether to influence behaviour in complex ways

Q

Deterministic/ free will

A

Psychic deterministic
Suggests that human behaviour is largely shaped by factors beyond conscious control such as unconscious drives, for example Freud argues that behaviour is influenced by the unconscious mind which contains repressed thoughts, memories and desires. Individuals are unaware of these yet they shape behaviour
Suggesting that behaviour that seems irrational or inexplicable is due to repressed emotions that are not freely chosen , determined by unresolved conflicts in the mind

Q

Treatment of abnormal behaviour

A

Psychoanalysis is designed to treat abnormal behaviour by exploring and resolving unconscious conflicts , repressed memories and childhood issues, aims to bring unconsous issues to the consious mind to help individuals gain an insights into their behaviour
One of the techniques is free association: where the patient is encouraged to say whatever comes to their mind without any filtering, allows unconscious feelings to emerge reveling repressed memories and emotions that may be contributing to abnormal behaviour
