What are the roles of the HR department?
- Deal with grievances
- Dicipline employees

What are grievances?
Concerns or problems raised by employees e.g. they are unhappy with poor working conditions
How would employees deal with a grievance?
- Solve them early by talking to management
- Have managers trained to deal with grievances
- Encourage employees to be open and honest
- Ensure managers dont blame or judge
- Ensure managers listen to customer concerns
Discipline:
The organisation should have company policies regarding employee conduct in place
Why might dicipline be used?
- Poor timekeeping
- Absenteeism
- Inappropriate use of ICT
What are examples of disciplinary sanctions?
- Verbal waring
- Formal written warnimg
- Final written warning
- Suspension
- Demotion
- Dismissal
How might and organisation terminate a contact?
- Dismissal
- Redundancy
- (retirement)
- (transfer or resignation)

What is dismissal?
When an employer terminates the employees contract. This should be a last resort. If unfair dismissals occur employees could contact ACAS or go to court and take thier complaint to an employment tribunal.
What is redundancy?
When an organisation decreases its workforce. It can be voluntary, compulsary (most recently employed first to leave) or retention by merit (least effective employee made redundant)
