Timing and Relevance - timing to when a patient can receive the message; relevance to the topic
Credibility - the past, present and perceived truthfulness of the message/individual
Humor - can be a good or bad effect dependent on the timing

  • fast pace/rhythm may indicate frustration, anger and may lead to loss of interest and breakdown of communication
  • slow pace/rhythm may also cause loss of interest
  • a balance must be struck in pace/rhythm with pauses for reflection between thoughts
