What is a communicable disease?
A disease that can be transmitted from person to person and is caused by a pathogen.
Name four types of pathogen.
Bacteria, Virus, Fungus and Protist
How are pathogens spread?
Airborne droplets
Physical/Unprotected sexual contact
Unprepared food and unwashed hands
Water
Animal/Insect bites
How do bacteria harm us?
Divide rapidly and produce toxins.
How do viruses make us ill?
Invade and multiply inside our cells which then fill up and eventually burst. The virus then spreads around the body.
How are diseases spread around the body?
Through the blood/bloodstream

Caused by a protist

Spread: Mosquitoes used as a vector.
Prevention: Use insecticides
