Comms failure Flashcards
Radio failure happen due to
Equipment malfunction
Human error
To avoid human error
- check that the right frequency is selected
2.check volume is up/squelch is low
- mic/headset are plugged in properly
- ground station is open
- you are within radio range
What to do if facing a Technical error
- try to join the GS other frequencies (ie. tower, approach, radio, ground)
- squaw 2600 + Mode C
- establish frequency with another GS enroute
- Establish contact with another aircraft on frequencies en route
5. Transmit blind:
a ) If Transmitter is working, but receiver is not
Transmit your message twice, preceded by ‘Transmitting Blind’ or ‘Transmitting blind due to receiver failure’
Include: addresses for which the message is intended
report the scheduled times, prositions, frequency
advise the time of next transmission
**6) if transmitter failed, but receiver works. **
- continue to listen to the frequency desginmated
- -may be able to listen to ATC/respond via pressing once or twice on the Mic button for Yes/No
If you fly VFR with radio malfunction
continue to fly VMC
squak 7600 Mode C
land in nearest suitable aerodrome (needs to ensure joining aerodrome circuite in safest manner)
report to ATSU immediately
How to join cuircuit with radio malfunction
Fly over the circuit height by 1000 ft
**join dead side **of the cuircuit (if circuit is left, dead side is right)
**join the circuit at upwind end **at circuit hight
Position itself downwind
**In your ‘Transmitting blind due to receiver failure, ensure you provide position reports in each side of the circuit (ie downwind, date downwind, base leg, final)
follow light signals from aerodrome (ie.steady green/red )
If there is no right circuit
pilot to follow left circut until ATC notices, and ATC will warn other aircraft
