What is arthroplasty?
The surgical replacement or reconstruction of a joint with artificially produced material
What is arthritis?
A common condition that causes pain and inflammation in a joint, with OA and RN being the 2 mos common
What is arthroplasty/arthridities?
A generic term applied to more than 100 different genetic, autoimmune, metabolic, connective tissue, and other acquired diseases that produce pathological process of the joint
What are the indications for joint replacement?

Trauma involving joint injury, e.g. intra-capsular femoral neck fracture
Bony lesions
AVN

Why is a joint replacement important?

To decide if orthopaedic intervention is necessary

To plan for an x-ray or CT

To aid the implantation of hardware
