A

By joining the National Opposition against the Young plan in 1929. It gave Hitler a stage to promote the Nazi Party.

What did the Wall Street Crash do to the Muller government?

A

It divided it into 2:

  • those who wanted to support the jobless
  • those who didn’t want to spend on jobless

The Muller government ends up collapsing and a new government led by Bruning is brought to power.

Why were new elections called by Bruning’s government?

A

Bruning wanted to pass a new budget which was rejected by the Reichstag in July 1930. Bruning used Article 48 to force his budget through the Reichstag. The Reichstag were very unhappy and told Bruning to withdraw the budget. Bruning tells Hindenburg to dissolve the Reichstag and new elections were called.

A

Hitler purged the SA in Berlin after their leader, Walter Stennes, revolted against Hitler. Stennes was expelled from the Nazi Party.

A

Bruning was trying to get rid of the Junkers (wealthy landowners). Hindenburg himself and his friends were all Junkers too. Hindenburg uses this to get rid of Bruning on 30th May 1932.

A

von Papen was made the new Chancellor by Hindenburg. He was an aristocrat which made him likeable by Hindenburg. He led a non-party government.

A

von Schleicher became the Defence Minister. He uses this role to get rid of the ban on the SA and the SS which causes an increase in street violence by the SA.

A

Schleicher offers Gregor Strasser vice-Chancellorship but Hitler ordered Strasser to say no! Hitler withdrew his support for Schleicher’s government which left it weak.

A

He began talks with Hitler about a coalition government. He spoke with Hindenburg who accepted Hitler’s coalition:

  • Hitler would be Chancellor
  • von Papen would be Vice Chancellor

  • Schacht would be Economic Minister
