Briefing What to consider
AOI, De-icing at dest, takeoff altn, tanker/cold fuel. Min SAT -70C (SAT -65 for 90mins.)
Exterior allowed
<3mm top fuselage/under wing, engine cowls frost only, fan ice call MOC, brush nose (or Type 1.) TYPE 1 (or clear) TYPE 2 TYPE 4. Use cloth and remove. Wash windscreen with freeze resistant screen wash if necessary
Contaminated Runway, what is
(>25%.) TOGA. Clear 30m wide. Max Water/Slush: 12.7. Wet SN: T/O 25.4. LDG 30 Dry SN: T/O 101.6. LDG 100. Icy: Not permitted
De-Icing
LOUT (approx. -25C) vs lowest fuel temp. 2 step if chance of re-freezing. Emergency when de-icing: Flash nose lights
EFB, what to check
Check both T/O and LDG. TOGA and OPT CONF if contaminated. If section of runway un-cleared, reduce length.
Holdover times
Guideline, wing check if elapsed. None for Forced Air. SG/GS=SN, Active Frost: OAT at or below 0C AND DP. (No type 2/4 if AF & <25C)
Taxi Out
Oil T&P for >IDLE. >-10C for T/O. No OETD if slippery, flaps up until hold, no anti-skid <20kts, jet blast. Nose check. Consider 2nd F/CTL cx
Ice Shedding
70% for 30secs every 30mins (A few seconds every 10mins if FZ/+SN.) Also before take-off, continue if skidding.
Late ENG AI
Each engine: IGN, reduce thrust, AI on, increase thrust, NORM
Ice Accretion
Unheated: Add 5 for Flap 3. (VLS+10) Severe (5mm)/WAI INOP: VLS + 10 or Green Dot
Contaminated LDG
Autobrake MED. CAT 3A (Rollout not demonstrated.) Mid RVR 125m. No Flap 3. Max Rev. Captain only
RCAM
BA/Info (e.g +RA) may degrade condition (Except: Treated Ice and airport report BA Medium.) Unreliable = Unmeasured
Taxi In
Keep flaps down if contaminated. Check clear before retracting. Consider Ice-Shedding
Cold Soak
Ditching ON/OFF. 0 to -5: Drain ASAP. -5 to -10: Heat 2h before DEP. -10 to -15: Heat 2h per 4h.
