  • A lot of important agreements such as the division of Germany and Berlin into 4 parts and

Potsdam Conference - what happened?

A
  • Stalin had set up pro soviet ‘puppet’ state in Poland which went against what had been decided in potsdam
  • New president truman openly displayed his dislike and was more suspicious of USSR and stalin.
  • No real progress made since yalta, uncertainity on how to act on commitments made at yalta
  • ’ new weapon of unusual destructive force ‘

Potsdam Conference - significance

A
  • exposed first cracks in grand alliance as meeting was fraught with disagreements and quarrels
  • combination of truman and stalin’s actions made usa more suspicious of ussr and hostility started to brew
  • facilitated the transition from ally to foe
  • bomb thing caused jealousy to brew and increased hostility
