Yalta conference
A
- ‘Big Three’ : Stalin , Roosevelt and Chruchill met to decide on a post-war agreement
- A lot of important agreements such as the division of Germany and Berlin into 4 parts and
- Countries liberated from nazi rule allowed to hold free elections

Potsdam Conference - what happened?
A
- Stalin had set up pro soviet ‘puppet’ state in Poland which went against what had been decided in potsdam
- New president truman openly displayed his dislike and was more suspicious of USSR and stalin.
- No real progress made since yalta, uncertainity on how to act on commitments made at yalta
- ’ new weapon of unusual destructive force ‘

A
- exposed first cracks in grand alliance as meeting was fraught with disagreements and quarrels
- combination of truman and stalin’s actions made usa more suspicious of ussr and hostility started to brew
- facilitated the transition from ally to foe
- bomb thing caused jealousy to brew and increased hostility
