Tendency of members to work together to achieve what they want to achieve

- size of group, larger group more chance of productivity but also more chance of social loafing
- time available
- mix of age and gender - fail to reach common goal
- when groups too large = cliques

- leadership style chosen by coach or captain is important
- importance how well coach/captain gets on with team

- team experience both winning and losing and use these experiences to learn from
- longer the team have been together the more chance of cohesion
- if team feels threatened their strong bond and cohesion could eliminate threat

Interactions of individuals in a team and how they work with each other

Motivation and coordination
Motivation problems
- too much arousal affects performance
- lose drive to win so reduction in concentration
Coordination problems
Team fails to listen to coach
Players fail to communicate with each other
Players may misunderstand their roles
