Q

What is a counter to Jauhar’s study on the effectiveness of CBTp?

A
  • the effect is very small and the studies used were found to be too optimistic regarding the effectiveness as the methodology lacked reliability (there was no control group and no random allactation)
  • This suggests other methods may be better (drug treatments)

Q

What is a weakness of using CBTp as a treatment for Schizophrenia?

A
  • there is a lack of availlability for those who need it as it’s an expensive resource and the waiting list is long, only 1 out of 10 schizophrenics get it
  • it isn’t suitsable for all Schizophrenics as those with severe delusions can’t fully engage in therapy therefore it may not be reliable

Q

What evidence is there to support the fact that CBTp has a limited availlability?

A
  • this is supported by Haddock et al’s study
  • in the study he found that out of the 187 randomly selected Schizophrenics only 6.9% had been offered CBTp
  • this shows that it may be hard for them to access this support
