consonants) or DIFFERENT category?
- It takes time to process 4 steps:
1. are they identical?
2. are they the same letter?
3. are they both vowels/consonants?
4. are they different?

- subject is shown 1, 2, or 4 letters
- subject has to then identify if a new letter was part of the initial set of letters
- showed that we process this in serial, meaning the entire set, not in parallel

- Question: does the stimulus contain an A or E?
- When the stimulus is a word, it is easier for participants

- Participants must say the color of the text out loud
- Text does not always match color, making it difficult
- Ex. it could say “blue” but be written in green ink, so you need to say green
