- it is a scientific approach because it uses controlled experiments to investigate behaviour. it focuses on investigating information processing.
- the approach has practical application so is useful. eg, the development of CBT to change the way a person thinks, which changes the way they behave.

- its an incomplete explanation of behaviour because it only focuses on behaviour being a result of information processing. it does not consider the influence of other factors such as other people, wider society and culture.
