Recognises familiar routine such as bath time

Blends vowels and consonants together to make bubbling sounds e.g. ba ma da
9 months
Begins to string syllables together to create tuneful babbling e.g. dadada
Understand some simple words such as no and bye-bye
12 months
First words begin to appear alongside tuneful babbling
Understand simple instructions such as where’s your head
Knows own name
15 months
Communicates by pointing and vocalising
May have 4 - 6 words
Understands and responds to simple instructions
18 months
Is keen to explore and is very curious

Communicates wishes and understand simple requests

4 years- fluent, although there are some speech immaturities in certain sounds such as “th”

Can count object accurately up to 10
Can make simple patterns
Sentences are well constructed, but some speech immaturities remain
Speech is used to argue with others
5-8 years
Is able to understand and enjoys jokes and riddles
Can use language to reason and explain ideas
Is able to do simple calculations, or they may need to use fingers or counters
