What are the 4 reflexes that newborns have
Rooting reflex- allows them to search for a nipple or a treat
Moro reflex- flings out their arms if they sense a sudden downward movement
Palmer grasp reflex- babies cling onto fingers tightly
Stepping reflex- moves their legs as if walking when held vertically.
Reflexes
automatic movements that occur without conscious thought.
What theorist has the hierarchy of needs
Maslow
What are the effects of ongoing lack of sleep
1) Sleep helps the immune system to fight infections. Children who do not get enough sleep are more prone to infections.
2) Young children’s brains grow fast.
However, a lack of sleep makes it harder for children to concentrate and process information.
3) Children who are tired are less likely to engage in vigorous physical activity. When combined with a lack of concentration, they may also find it hard to take part in activities requiring fine motor skills. Recently, a link has been shown between a lack of sleep and childhood obesity.
4) Tired children find it hard to control their impulses and emotions, and even to control their behaviour. They may also find it hard to be cooperative, which may affect their ability to make and keep friends.
