COARCTATION OF AORTA Flashcards
1
Q
Pathology
A
Congenital narrowing of the aorta at distal to insertion of ductus arteriosus causing hypertension due to marked reduction in the perfusion of the kidney
2
Q
Presentation (6)
A
1- Classic: chest pain, murmur, hypertension in a young patient
2- Hypertension due to reduced renal perfusion
3- Radio-femoral delay: delayed pulses in legs
4- Mid-late systolic murmur
5- 70% of them have a bicuspid aortic valve
6- CXR: rib notching- collateral arteries erode the undersurface of the ribs
