Coagulation Process Flashcards
1
Q
Hemostasis
A
Stopping of blood loss from damage blood vessels
2
Q
Coagulation
A
Blood loss stopped
-process of turning liquid blood into semisolid clot
3
Q
Clot
A
Composed of platelets and red blood cells held together by protein- fibrin
4
Q
Fibrin
A
Protein holds platelets and red blood cell together
5
Q
Hemostatic process
A
- vasoconstriction: narrowing of blood vessel that slow blood flow
- formation of platelet plug (hemostatic plug): temporary mass formed when platelet stick to each other (platelet aggregation)
- secondary plug: fibrin, longer lasting, more stable
- fibrinolysis-disintegration of blood clot
6
Q
Clotting factors
A
Process of coagulation, complex cascade of reaction involve proteins
- platelet aggregation is initiate by exposure to von willebrand factor and tissue factor
- during coagulation: protein fibrinogen is converted to fibrin by enzyme thrombin
- prothrombin: precursor to thrombin
- hemophilia: caused by deficiency of factor VIII or factor IX
7
Q
Fibrinogen
A
Factor I
-protein converted to fibrin
8
Q
Thrombin
A
Factor IIa
-enzyme
9
Q
Prothrombin
A
Factor II
-precursor to thrombin
10
Q
Hemophilia
A
Caused by deficiency of factor VIII or factor IX
