Q

Hemostatic process

A
  • vasoconstriction: narrowing of blood vessel that slow blood flow
  • formation of platelet plug (hemostatic plug): temporary mass formed when platelet stick to each other (platelet aggregation)
  • secondary plug: fibrin, longer lasting, more stable
  • fibrinolysis-disintegration of blood clot

Q

Clotting factors

A

Process of coagulation, complex cascade of reaction involve proteins

  • platelet aggregation is initiate by exposure to von willebrand factor and tissue factor
  • during coagulation: protein fibrinogen is converted to fibrin by enzyme thrombin
  • prothrombin: precursor to thrombin
  • hemophilia: caused by deficiency of factor VIII or factor IX
