CNS stimulants: Cocaine and nicotine Flashcards
Cocaine - signs of intoxication
Agitation, loquacity.
Altered tactile sensation (cocaine bugs), decreased fatigue, euphoria, grandiosity, hypervigilance, paranoia, aggressiveness.
Hyper/hypotension, tachycardia.
Chills, mydriasis, nausea, sweating, nystagmus, vomiting.
Cocaine - treatment of intoxication

Increased appetite.
Cocaine - MOA

Cocaine overdose
Tonic-clonic seizures, malignant encephalopathy, myocardial infarction.
Ventricular fibrillation, cardiac arrest.
Management of cocaine withdrawal
Bromocriptine - reduce craving
Nicotine - interactions
Accelerates metabolism of beta-blockers, benzodiazepines, opioids and theophylline.
Nicotine - MOA
Activates nicotinic receptors in CNS and PNS.
Inhibits monoamine oxidase.
Nicotine - signs of intoxication
Mild euphoria, increased arousal and concentration, improved memory, appetite suppression.
