Cns and Thermoregulation Support Flashcards
discuss the different stages for monitoring of CNS
- Stage 1 –> awake
- Stage 2 –> excitement
- Stage 3
- surigcal stage
- stage 4 –> decrease CNS/RR
Discuss how eye mintoring is used to assess the anesthetic effect’

Compelete these sentences:
1) papebral reflex in dogs …
2) palpebral reflex in horses …
3) corneal reflex
4) nystagmus
5) lacrimation
6) eye position (medioventral)
7) jaw tone
1) no relfex at adequate surgical depth
2) complete loss at deep anesthesia
3) shiuld always be present
4) usually iondication of exictement and light anesthesia; dsosociate anestheiss can cause at moiderate anesthesia depth
5) light plane of aanesthesia (horses)
6) not seeing in horses
7) moderate to loose is desirbale ot have
For specific reflexes, discuss the oculocardiac reflex and the cushing reflex
oculoccardiac reflex:
- pressure./traction on the eyball = bradyarrythmia
- Treatment: ATROPINE
CUSHING reflex:
- increase ICP
- arterial hypertension, with compensatory bradycardia and respiratory irregulairty
- Treatment: Mannitol or Hypoertonic saline
When considering body temperature, dicuss hypothermia
Hypoethermia:
decreased oxygern consumption\
causes peripheral vasoconstriction
compromise immune fucniton
complicated in the shock patient:
- impaired platelt function
- prolonged bleeding time
- ## decreased anesthetic requirement
