Cardiovascular support Lecture Flashcards
Discuss the breakdiown of total body water in a dog
- MEMORIZE NUMBERS ON POIC FOR EXAM
Total body water is split up into two categories: 1) extracellular water 2) intracellular water
Then going ufurther, extraceellular water is broekn down into two categories 1) plasma water 2) interstitial water
Discuss the difference between LRs and Plasmalyte A
- LRS:
- Buffer - ;l;actate (metabolism); used to correct dehydratiomn and maintenace; NOT indicated to give with cases of hyperkalemia or give with blooood producs
PlasmaLyte A: Buffer - acetate and gluconate (muscle metabolism; NOT indicated to give eith cases of hyoperkalemia; it used to correcrt dehydration and maintenace
- NOTE THAT there details on these slides (flashacrds) are lacking in detaikl for this set
-
Discuss most commmon causes of hypertension
- Pain
- distress
- chronic or acute kidney disease
- hyperthyroidism
- thyperadrenocorticism
- diabetes meelitus
- pheochromcytoma
- yada yada yada
Discuss which drugs are used to treat hypertensuiion
Also discuss the mechanism of action
- Acepromazine (alpha1 adrenoreceptor atagonist)
- Clevidipine (Calcium channel blocker)
- Nitroprusside (nitric oxide release)
-
Discuss ventricular tachycardia
- Ventri cular tachycardia: wide and bizarre QRS complexes withoiut any associated P waves in addition to tachycardia
Discuss the most common cause of tachycardia and also discuss treatments for it
- Most common causes:
- pain
- myocardial irritation due to primary cardiac or systemic disease
Treatments:
- analgesic drugs
- lidocaine
- procainamide
-
Discuss the basics of how to treat a dog uif uts 1) hypovolemic 2) dehydrated 3) vasodilation
1) hypovolemic –> use fluids to treat
2) Vasodilation –> drugs
3) Dehyrated –> fluids
