CHRONIC MYELOGENOUS LEUKEMIA
CHRONIC MYELOGENOUS LEUKEMIA
Malignant disorder characterized by
is common
_ that is found in granulocytes, RBC, platelets and B cells
leukocytosis with increased mature and immature granulocytes
Thrombocytosis
Splenomegaly
(+) Philadelphia chromosome (Ph1)
reserved for PH1- cases of infants and children
JUVENILE CML
CHRONIC MYELOGENOUS LEUKEMIA
CLINICAL PRESENTATION
(+) lymphadenopathy
Fullness (hepatosplenomegaly)
Priapism
CML
LABORATORY FINDINGS PERIPHERAL BLOOD
Marked WBC elevation (50-600 X 109/L)
Anemia if present is N/N
Platelets are inversely proportional to WBC count
Dysplastic granulocytes and platelets ARE NOT CHARACTERISTIC of CML except in:
- Myeloid blast formation
- Ph1- CML
- Initial patients seen with CML in blast transformation
CML
LABORATORY FINDINGS
BONE MARROW
Markedly cellular with minimal fat with predominance of the granulocytic series
Shift to the left
Increase megakaryocytes
(+) fibrosis
found in cells of the malignant proliferating clone in 70% to 90% of patients with CML
PHILADELPHIA CHROMOSOME
Results from the t(9q+;22q-)
