Excitatory- (allow sodium to flow into postsynaptic neuron)
Inhibitory- ( allow chloride to flow into postsynaptic neuron)

A
- Amino Acids- Molecular Subcomponents of proteins
- Monoamines- synthesised from an amino acid e.g. dopamine, noradrenaline
- peptides- short chains of amino acids e.g oxytocin, somatostatin
- others organic or inorganic molecules e.g. adenosine

Glutamate- the most prevalent excitatory neurotransmitters
