Inhibitory- ( allow chloride to flow into postsynaptic neuron)

Four categories of neurotransmitters

A
  • Amino Acids- Molecular Subcomponents of proteins
  • Monoamines- synthesised from an amino acid e.g. dopamine, noradrenaline
  • peptides- short chains of amino acids e.g oxytocin, somatostatin
  • others organic or inorganic molecules e.g. adenosine
