Clinical Monitoring - labs, xrays Flashcards
What lab value is used to monitor the titration of unfractionated heparin infusion?
aPTT - activated partial thromboplastin time
What lab values are reviewed on a pt taking warfarin?
PT / INR
Prothrombin Time , International Normalized Ratio
When would you evaluate thrombin time?
When patient is taking a direct thrombin inhibitors such as dabigatran, agatroban, bilvalrudin
What is the expected oxygen saturation reading using a standard pulse oximeter in a patient with Methemoglobinemia and normal partial pressure of oxygen in the arterial blood
85%
Normal sPo2 can neither detect MetHgb nor accurately measure Spo2 in elevated methemoglobinemia.
What is methemoglobinemia? What is the treatment?
An altered state of hemoglobin where the ferrous form of heme is oxidized to ferric form. MetHgb cannot bind to oxygen or release previously bound oxygen. Leads to a left shift on the oxy0hgb curve. Generally, partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood will remain normal.
Methylene blue 1-2ml/kg is the primary pharm treatment.
