CLINICAL DATA REPOSITORIES (CHAPTER 13; FINALS) Flashcards
electronic or written format; houses a multitude of laboratory results, diagnostic reports, and various clinical documentation
CLINICAL DATA REPOSITORIES (CDR)
common kinds of available information in the CDR
1) PATIENT’S DEMOGRAPHICS
2) PATIENT’S PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER
3) MEDICATION LIST
4) ALLERGIES
5) HOSPITAL INPATIENT VISITS
6) EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT ENCOUNTERS
7) OUTPATIENT PRACTICE VISITS
8) IMMUNIZATIONS
9) DIAGNOSES
10) PROCEDURES
11) LAB RESULTS
12) SOCIAL HISTORY
13) VITALS
a structures and systematically gathered “storehouse” of patient-specific data, which is usually mirrored from a clinical application, or supplemented with data from other clinical systems
CLINICAL DATA REPOSITORY
types of Clinical Data Repositories
1) STUDY
2) ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD
3) REGISTRY
4) WAREHOUSE
5) COLLECTION
6) FEDERATION
A database that collects observations for a specific clinical research study
STUDY
a database of observations mase as a result of direct healthcare
ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD
Observations collected and organized for the purpose of studying or guiding particular outcomes on a defined population (Associated studies are either multiple or long-term and evolving over time)
REGISTRY
A repository that adds levels of integration and quality to the primary (research or clinical data of a single institution, to support flexible queries for multiple uses (Is broader in application than a registry)
WAREHOUSE
A library of heterogenous data sets from more organizations than a warehouse or more sources than a registry–Organized to help users find a particular data set, but not to query for data combined across data sets
COLLECTION
A repository distributed across multiple locations, where each location retains control over access to its own data, and is responsible for making the data comparable with the data of other locations
FEDERATION
Since they receive information from a multitude of feeder systems, well-deployed CDRs can create:
“ONE-STOP SHOPPING” ENVIRONMENT
Through this, the clinical staff access a variety of patient-focused information
GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE (GUI)

CLINICAL DATA REPOSITORIES
The art of representing data in a pictorial or graphical format; helps in simplifying a wide array of information, and it allows decision-makers to derive analytical results from information presented visually
