Clinical - Cardiovascular Flashcards
Congestive heart failure
The inability of the heart to pump blood effectively to meet the body’s metabolic demands
Atrial fibrillation
Cardiac arrhythmia characterized by irregular rhythm, usually abnormally fast heart rate
Myocardial infaction
Sudden blockage of blood flow to the heart, usually resulting from coronary artery blood clots
Atherosclerosis
The buildup of plaque on artery walls
Bradycardia
Slower than normal heart rate
Tachycardia
Faster than normal heart rate
Anemia
Not enough healthy red blood cells
Hypotension
When blood flows through blood vessels at lower than normal pressures
Hypertension
Blood flows through the vessels at higher than normal pressures
Aneurysms
Abnormal bulge in blood vessel wall from a weak area in the wall
Disseminated intravascular coagulation
Infection or injury the affects the body’s clotting process
Capillary leak syndrome
Increase in capillary permeability to proteins
Peripheral artery disease
The narrowing or blocking of arteries that carry blood from the heart to the legs
Deep vein thrombosis
The formation of a blood clot inside of a deep vein
