What is the workflow for exchanging of Used E-kit?
-Request porter to collect new e-kit from inpatient pharmacy
-KTPH acute wards in YCH, RN to request porter to collect E-KIT from tower D satellite pharmacy during office hours.
For YCH;
-After office hrs, call KTPH Pharmacy to inform and collect buffer E-KIT.
-kept used e-kit in ward and return to YCH pharmacy during next working day.
What is the workflow for Faulty Medical Refrigerator?
Medical refrigerator temp falls outside 2-8 degrees
-Fridge will alarm
-FRC will received the alarm, if office hours they will come and check
-Proceed to check on site, troubleshoot, if unable to rectify then contact NM or Nurse In-charge
-If the fridge cannot be repaired immediately,
SN Action to be carried out:
-Place 3 ice packs in insulated cooler box and wait for 15 minutes
-Transfer medications to insulated cooler box. Medications can be kept up to 3hrs.
-If rectification takes longer than 3 hrs, transfer the medication to nearest ward for storage
How do you check sterility of
CSSD items?
- Through verification of sterility of sterilised CSSD items ( autoclaving tape , tamper evident arrow, peelable view pouch with chemical indicator
additional checks :
1. Wrapper is damp or water spot, discolouration or stained or torn
2. Tips of sharp item is not protected with plastic sheath
3. Ratchet(locking feature that secure close position
Checking of items expiry dates
-Medical and surgical equipment, instruments, appliances, materials are used in accordance with manufacturer.
Food safety : safe handling of patient’s food
-Check correct patient ID before diet serving
-Do not leave food tray in the pantry beyond allowable duration >2hrs as indicated
-Ensure not to overstocked patient rations
How do you check Manual resuscitator?
-Must know how to do function testing, parts and its rationale.
When do you check manual resuscitator?
-Every morning before start of the shift, after cleaning, or after use (for example during code blue)
How do you clean the manual resuscitator and laryngeal blade after use?
Send to CSSD department
How often do you check defibrillator?
-Functional test is done once daily every
Sunday.
-And after each resuscitation
-How long are the documents kept?
-1 week for daily check forms
-1 month for weekly check forms
How do you know if your equipment’s are safe to use?
Preventive maintenance sticker
-This means that the equipment is service
TWICE a year i.e. number 3 means March & number 9 means September.
- if only one number on the sticker means equipment is service ONCE a year
What do you do if the equipment is not functioning properly?
-If equipment is faulty, put this RED TAG ( DO NOT USE ) on the equipment, place it aside and call BME

How do you keep patient property?
- Collect property from conscious patient, no need to write the items in the form. Seal in front of patient.
- Collect property from unconscious patient to witness by another staff and to list down all items that been collected
How do you return patient property?
Property will be kept and remove from safe keeping box by property key holder and staff who going to return or collect the property
How much property/cash can you safe keep in the ward? If not how?
- If property more than $250 to keep in security
How do you handover patient’s property?
-staff that coming and going off duty to check together before start of the shift
