13
Q

What does an increase in global temperature have on the earth?

A

Rising temperatures have an affect on rising sea levels as temperatures rise ice melts causing sea levels to rise.

14
Q

Why should carbon emissions be reduced?

A

This is because carbon emissions air the greenhouse effect in the atmosphere where heat from the sun cannot be radiated back into space because of carbon and greenhouse gases.

15
Q

How can global warming lead to malnutrition?

A

As global warming increases food production is decrease, this cause by high temperatures that are causing the water from the sound to dry and plant and crops cannot receive enough water to survive. If the plants and crops die food production will decrease causing malnutrition and hunger or starvation.

16
Q

What is the difference between renewable energy sources and non-renewable energy sources?

A

Renewable energy sources are energy sources that can constantly replenish themselves such hydro-energy, solar energy and wind energy.

Non renewable energy sources are energy sources that are finite( resources deplete), examples include:
Fossil fuels.

17
Q

What are two disadvantages of renewable energy sources?

A

It is difficult for renewable energy sources to to produce electricity on the same scale as other fuels and renewable energy can cost a lot in the beginning.

18
Q

Why is it bad for the environment when fossil fuels are burnt?

A

This is because coal is non-renewable and when it is burnt greenhouse gas emissions occur, this causes an increase in temperature globally which changes climate patterns overall this pollutes the environment.

19
Q

Define fossil fuels

A

A group of energy sources that were formed from ancient plants and organisms during the Carboniferous period approximately 362 to 286 million years ago.

20
Q

How is electricity made?

A

Using a source of energy(fossil fuel), the energy coming from the source is released in the form of heat, which is used to boil water which will take the form of steam, that propelled turbines, which spin generator coils and this generates electricity.

21
Q

What is coal

A

Coal is a black or dark brown combustible rock made primarily from carbon.

22
Q

How was coal formed?

A

When plants died in swamps millions of years and got buried under water and dirt, the high hear and pressure turned the dead plants into coal

23
Q

Define combustion

A

The process where a substance burns in the presence of Oxygen, giving off heat and light energy in the process.

24
Q

Define the greenhouse effect

A

A natural process that prevents the earth from retaining too much heat in it atmosphere

25
Q

Paying close attention to the greenhouse effect what type of gases trap extra heat and cause the earth’s temperature to rise?

A

Greenhouse gases.

26
Q

Define the word Finite.

A

There is a limited amount of a certain resource

27
Q

What is renewable energy

A

Energy that is generated from natural sources that natural replenish and never run out.

28
Q

What are biofuels

A

These are combustible fuels created from biomass

29
Q

What are first generation bio fuels?

A

These are biofuels that are produced from food crops.

30
Q

What are second generation biofuels?

A

These are biofuels that are produced from cellulosic(containing cellulose) materials such as wood and grasses and the inedible parts of plans.

31
Q

What are third generation biofuels?

A

These are biofuels produced using the lipid production from algae.

32
Q

Define carbon capture and storage?

A

The removing of carbon from the atmosphere or from the burning of fossil fuels and trapping it underground.

33
Q

Décrive the feedback loop

A

This is when ice caps melt as a result of warming ocean water since the ice caps melt there will be less ice to reflect the sun’s heat which means more heat will be absorbed, which will again lead to ice caps melting. This loop will repeat itself continuously.

34
Q

What do rising sea levels threaten?

A

They threaten low lying coastal areas.

35
Q

Will food production increase as climate change increases? Explain why this will happen?

A

No Food production will not increase as climate change increases because, climate change leads to an increase in temperatures which will lead to more moisture evaporating from the soil, and this way crops cannot grow.

36
Q

What does a planet need for habitation to occur?(5)

A

Temperature
A Hydrosphere with water
An atmosphere
Biosphere(for energy)
Lithosphere(for nutrients)
