Training For Clients with Obesity: Intensity
Exercise at a moderate level of intensity working up to the highest level of intensity that can be sustained comfortably over an extended period of time. Determine with talk test and RPE.
Training For Clients with Obesity: Time
Exercise 30-60 min per day, can be done in multiple sessions or 1 bout.
Training For Clients with Obesity: Type
Perform low-impact, rhythmic exercises using large muscle groups.
Exercise Recommendation (min/week) for Obese Clients
150-250 moderate-intensity exercise per week for moderate weight loss. 250-300 min/week for significant weight loss.
Things to avoid when training a client with obesity
Running, jumping, and high impact types of movement. Lunges and squats should be done with caution because of possible knee and back discomfort. Seated exercise may be preferred in terms of balance. Take consideration when placing obese clients on machines to ensure they fit properly.
Chronic Disease: Exercise Guideline
Clients with one or more chronic disease should follow a low-moderate intensity exercise program that gradually progresses.
Training for Clients with Coronary Artery Disease: Nutrition
Clients should follow a healthy diet pattern characterized by five primary and three secondary metrics.
Training for Clients with Coronary Artery Disease: Exercise
3 set of 10-15 reps using 8-10 exercises targeting all major muscle groups 2-3x per week
Training with Coronary Artery Disease: Heart Rate
Heart Rate should not exceed the “somewhat hard” RPE of 12-13 on the 6-20 scale or the HR at VT1. Exercise should not continue if experiencing angina, dyspnea, lightheadedness or dizziness, pallor, or Rapid HR.
