Gross body movement
Big movement, using large muscle groups- doesn’t really rely on accuracy (weight lifting)
Fine body movement
Small, precise movement- more often than not require precision and accuracy (archery)
Self-paced Skill
The movement/ action is started when the player wants to start it- up to them (squash)
Externally- paced Skill
The movement/ action is started based on an external factor- a whistle being blown or a player running towards you (football)
Basic Skill
A skill that requires simple decisions and are usually seen with begginers- can be adapted easily from sport to sport (warm up)
Complex Skill
A skill that requires more thinking/learning which are usually sport specific requiring control and is seen with more experienced athletes (flicking a ball in hockey)
Open Skill
A skill that is performed in a certain way to deal with an unstable environment- to out smart an opponent you have to adapt (tackling in hockey)
Closed Skill
A skill that isn’t affected by the environment- tends to be done the same way everytime (running)
