Classical Conditioning Flashcards
What is classical conditioning?
- When we learn that two things happen together - we associate them with each other.
What does it mean by ‘Before Learning’ ?
- The natural stimulus and response relationship.
What does it mean by ‘During Learning’ ? - hint: Think Pavlov
- This is learning process where dogs where the dogs learn to associate the bell and food this process needed to be done 4 or 5 times before the association was made.
What does it mean by ‘After Learning’ ?
- This is the new learnt behaviour.
What is the unconditioned stimulus (UCS) ?
- The stimulus which automatically triggers a specific reflex response e.g. food
What is the unconditioned response (UCR) ?
- the automatic reflex response to the unconditioned stimulus e.g. salivation
What is the neutral stimulus (Ns) ?
- A stimulus which would not normally trigger a specific reflex response e.g. bell does not normally trigger salivation
What is the conditioned stimulus (CS) ?
- The NS now triggers the reflex response e.g. the bell now triggers salivation
What is the conditioned Response (CR) ?
- This is the learned response i.e. the reflex behaviour is triggered by the CS e.g. salivation in response to the Bell.
What is extinction?
- the learned response appears to been extinguished.
What is spontaneous recovery?
When the association between two things has not been extinguished?
What is Generalisation?
- When the conditional response is triggered by a stimulus response.
What is discrimination?
-e.g. when the buzzers are sounded which are more and more different from the original tone (the CS), the dog still no longer salivates.
When does one-trial learning occur?
- Sometimes learning occurs when the unconditioned and the conditioned stimulus are paired together only once.
