Atherosclerosis
Hardening of the fatty stuff

Blockage of blood flow resulting in the death of muscle tissue. (Heart attack)
Mitral prolapse
Flaps of the mitral valve tear away due to disease, process is called prolapse.
Angina pectoris
Pain in the chest, caused by the heart muscle not getting enough blood,
Arrhythmia/dysrhythmia
Abnormal heart rates and rhythms
Ischemia
Heart muscle is not getting enough blood flow, the oxygen the blood carries is insufficient to sustain muscle.

Physician specializing in diseases of the blood.

Printout recording electrical activity of the heart, used by cardiologist often
Echocardiography
Sounds waves like sonar to form an image of inside of the heart, can demonstrate valve damage
Cardiac catheterization
A catheter can be threaded into an artery up into the heart, used to identify a blockage and location in the coronary circulation.
Phlebotomist/venipuncturist
Specially trained nurse/technician draws blood for lab tests and may also start IV’s
