Chronic Ischemic Heart Disease Flashcards
What is the difference between acute coronary syndrome and chronic coronary syndrome?
acute: sudden reduction in blood flow
chronic: abrupt increase in demand but limited ability to increase oxygen supply
What is positive (compensatory) remodeling means?
Coronary lumen size maintained by compensatory enlargement
of the elastic external membrane as the atheroma volume increases
What is the central feature of chronic coronary syndrome?
negative (loss of positive) remodeling
When does myocardial blood flow happen?
80% in diastole, 20% in systole
What is typical angina?
Meets all three of the following:
- Substernal chest discomfort of characteristic quality and duration
- Provoked by exertion or emotional stress
- Relieved by rest and/or GTN
What is atypical angina?
Meets only two of the typical angina criteria
What is non-cardiac chest pain
Meets only one or none of the typical angina criteria
