Chpt.9 Hip Flashcards
3 parts of the hip:
- Ball & socket joint
- Pelvic Girdle (joined by sacrum)
- Femur (longest bone in body)
What 3 main muscles makes up the hip adductors?
- adductor longus
- adductor brevis
- addutor magnus
What is the Gerdy’s tubercle?
the area where the IT (iliotibial) tract and the Tensa Fascia Lata go into the tibia
(attach anterolaterally)
What makes up the Anteriorly Joint at the hip?
Is it amphiarthrodial or dyarthrodial?
- Two pelvic bones join to form symphysis pubis
- amphiarthrodial ( slightly movable)
What makes up the Posteriorly Joint?
Is it amphiarthrodial or dyarthrodial?
-Sacrum is between the 2 pelvic bones & forms the Sacroiliac joints
- Strong ligaments unite these bones to form rigid
- amphiarthrodial
During running, what increases the length of stride to achieve faster movement and greater R.O.M. ?
Pelvic Rotation
What ligament prevents hyperextension of the hip?
Iliofemoral or Y ligament (anteriorly)
What ligament limits excessive extension & abduction
-pubofemoral ligament (anteromedially & inferiorly)
What ligament at the acetabulofemoral limits adduction?
teres ligament
What ligament limits internal rotation at Acetabulofemoral joint?
Ishiofemoral ligament (postero-medially)
What is the possible Range of FLEXION in hip joint?
0-130 degrees of FLEXION
What is the possible Range of EXTENSION in hip joint?
0-30 degrees of EXTENSION
What is the possible Range of ABDUCTION in hip joint?
0-45 degrees of ABDUCTION
What is the possible Range of ADDUCTION in hip joint?
0-35 degrees of ADDUCTION
What is the possible Range of INTERNAL rotation in hip joint?
0 to 45 degrees of INTERNAL rotation
What is the possible Range of EXTERNAL rotation in hip joint?
0 to 50 degrees of EXTERNAL rotation

The hip and Pelvic Girdle muscles innervate from where?
Which plexus?
- lumbar (L1-L4)
- sacral (L4, L5, & S1-S4)
- plexus (lumbosacral plexus)
? Lumbar plexus is formed by lower ____ and the ____ & ____ portions of lower extremity
- lower abdomen
- anterior
- medial
