Chpt. 8.3 Knee & Shoulder Joints Flashcards
Coracohumeral ligament
Part of Shoulder Joint
- Composed of broad band of connective tissue
- Connects coracoid process of scapula to greater tubercle of humerus
- Strengthens the superior portion of joint capsule
Glenohumeral ligament
Part of Shoulder Joint
- Composed of three bands of fibers that appear as thickenings in the ventral wall of the joint capsule
- Extend from the edge of glenoid cavity to the lesser tubercle and neck of humerus
Transverse humeral ligament
Part of Shoulder Joint
- Composed of narrow sheet of connective tissue fibers
- Runs between the lesser and greater tubercles of humerus
- Forms a canal through which long head of the biceps brachii muscle passes
Patellar ligament
Part of Knee Joint
- Composed of strong, flat band that extends from margin of patella to tibial tuberosity
- Continuation of tendon from quadriceps femoris
Oblique popliteal ligament
Part of Knee Joint
-Connects lateral condyle of the femur to the margin of the head of the tibia
Arcuate popliteal ligament
Part of Knee Joint
-Appears as Y-shaped system of fibers that extends from lateral condyle of femur to the head of tibia
Tibial collateral ligament (medial collateral ligament)
Part of Knee Joint
-Broad, flat band of tissue that connects the medial condyle of femur to the medial condyle of the tibia
Fibular collateral ligament (lateral collateral ligament)
Part of Knee Joint
-Strong, round cord located between the lateral condyle of the femur and the head of the fibula
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
Part of Knee Joint
- Helps prevent displacement of the articulating surfaces
- Originates from the anterior intercondylar area of the tibia and extends to the lateral condyle of the femur
Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
Part of Knee Joint
- Helps prevent displacement of the articulating surfaces
- Connects posterior intercondylar area of the tibia to the medial condyle of the femur
Menisci
Part of Knee Joint
- Fibrocartilaginous
- Separate the articulating surfaces of the femur and tibia and help align them
- Attaches to the head of the tibia
- Medial and lateral menisci
Suprapatellar bursa
Located between the anterior surface of the distal end of the femuar and the quadriceps femoris
Prepatellar bursa
Large bursa between the patella and skin
Infrapatellar bursa
Small bursa between proximal end of tibia and patellar ligament
Subscapular bursa
In shoulder, between joint capsule and tendon of subscapularis muscle
