What’s the dif between first and second generation of antipsychotic meds?
First generation control positive symptoms like: hallucination, delusion, bizarre behavior. Used on people who can tolerate adverse effects.
Second generation used on initial treatment and breakthrough treatment. There’s more effects with fewer adverse effects.
What are the advantages of second generation drugs?
It treats positive and negative symptoms.
Fewer EPS effects, tardive dyskinesias and less dopamine blockade.

Client experiences severe spasms of tongue, neck, face or back. NEEDS rapid treatment. PRIOIRTY HERE

bradykinesia, rigidity, shuffling gait, drooling, and tremors

Client is unable to stand still or sit and is continually pacing and agitated
def Tardive dyskinesia
involuntary movements of tongue, and face i.e lip smacking, which causes speech and eating disturbances
What is neuroleptic malignant syndrome?
It includes high-grade fever, BP fluctuations, dysrhythmias, muscle rigidity, and chance in LOC.
STOP antipsychotic med immediately. Switch to atypical (2nd gen) med
What are anticholinergic effects?
Dry mouth, blurred vision, photophobia, urinary hesitancy, constipation, tachycardia
Neuroendocrine effects
Effects include gynecomastia (breast enlargement), galactorrhea (excessive produc of milk), and menstrual irregularities )

A deficiency in WBC.Monitor for infections.
