• To prevent further offending
• to prevent evidence tampering/destruction
• prevent interference with witnesses
• to ensure CYP will appear before Court

When a CYP is questioned or arrested, their Bill of Rights need to be advised in a manner and language which the CYP can understand

Persons who may be nominated by a CYP:

• Parent or Guardian
• Adult member of the CYP’s family / whanau
• Any other adult selected by the child
• If CYP refuses to nominate someone, Police can provide someone such as a solicitor or a justice of the peace
