Koplik’s spots are mucosal lesions which are usually white in colour and pathognomonic for measles
Condition is caused by Epstein- Barr virus (EBV)
Infectious mononucleosis
Is a member of human heroes virus
In adolescents causes this infectious mononucleosis which causes sore throat, fever, lymphadenopathy.
Condition presents as intraoral ulcers on the hard and soft palate which last for up to 1 month , he’s with scars and are approx 1 cm in diameter
Major recurrent oral ulceration , recurrent aphtous stomatitis (RAS)
2 year old present with one week of fever abs oral pain and ulcerated gums. No other lesions on his body. Most likely causative agent?
Herpes simplex virus 1
Remember herpes simplex virus 2 is associated with genital herpes.
Varicella zoster Virus causes chicken pox
Fusibacterium and spirochates Are associated with NUG in children

4 months old present and is febrile , has lymphadenopathy, combination of vesicles and ulcers on gingival and oral mucosa.
Diagnose?
Has lymphadenopathy so rules out teething and traumatic ulcer
Has intra oral ulcer so rule out impetigo , impetigo is periorally not intra orally
Diagnosis: primary herpetic gingivostomatitis
Management: soft diet, fluid , review
13 year old present with sore throat and Koplik’s spots . What the diagnosis ?

What is the treatment?
Primary herpetic gingivostomatitis
Treatment: Acivlovir , antiseptic mouthwash and paracetamol to reduce pyrexia
Increase fluid intake .
A 12 year old who has had chickenpox previously presents with vesicles in and around his left ear, hearing loss and some facial nerve weakness. What is the diagnosis ?
Ramsay-hunt Syndrome which is associated with varicella zoster infection.
Treatment is usually with steroids and antivirals to reduce the chance of permanent hearing loss
