A

is when a person intentionally ill-treats a child or causes or permits the child to be ill-treated in a manner likely to cause the child actual bodily harm, injury to health or mental disorder or disability. This ill-treatment or neglect must be serious and avoidable

If a child has made the disclosure to an adult what should you do?

A

If the adult can give you the info don’t ask the child any more questions

If it is still unclear what has happened but the child is safe do not ask any more questions

If absolutely necessary to ascertain the safety of the child then only ask open questions

What are the three catagories

A

1) CRITICAL - immediate risk of serious harm and the need of immediate protection may be necessary.
2) VERY Urgent - risk of harm but no immediate danger. 24hr timeframe for IJIP
3) Urgent - risk of harm but protected in the short term.

Critical and Very Urgent require referral, consult, agree and IJIP within 24hrs. Urgent is within 2 full working days.
