What role do social work have in the protection of children

A
  • child protection is not the sole responsibility of social work , this is a responsibility of everyone from parents to extended family, friends, neighbour, members of the public and professionals alike
  • children and families social work teams play an active rope in keeping children safe both informally and using statutory measures

  • all children and families social workers are able to take on the child protection role when necessary
  • the Intake Team who would take this role on for any child who are not open to social work
  • if unsure is a child is open to SW , call MASH in the first instance

How do the social work interact with police and health day to day ?

A
  • SW does not work in isolation , there are many partners who participate
  • there is MASH (multi-agency screening hub) in Dundee which consists of social work, education, police and health. This team is the first point of contact when the child or family are not open to social work
