Anorexia Nervosa: What does restrictive eating cause?
- Emaciation
- Amenorrhea
- Altered body image
- Extensive fear of becoming obese
At what age is anorexia nervosa most prominent?
Varies from preadolescence to early adulthood
Peaks at 12-13 and 17
What are S/S of anorexia?
Deliberate weight loss
Dieting or vomiting/purging
Hypotension, bradycardia and hypothermia
What are physical changes caused by anorexia?
Ventricular dilatation Dry skin, lanugo Constipation (due to slowed gastric peristalsis) Dehydration (may cause renal failure) Osteopenia/porosis (due to amenorrhea)
