A

Bruising, burns, fractures, or injuries incongruent with stories

Repeated urinary tract infections, venereal disease in young children, injuries in genital region

What are behavioural/ psychological S/S of abuse?

A
Fear
Aggression
Child is withdrawn
Inability to form social relationships
Delinquency
Wearing clothing inappropriate for weather (but hides bruising)
Depression
Guilt/shame (especially seen in sexual abuse)
Low self-esteem
Anger

What are some future difficulties that the child may face when they are an adult?

A
  • Difficulty in setting boundaries (may be used by others)
  • Difficulty forming trust in others
  • Revictimization
  • Substance abuse
  • PTSD or Dissociative Identity Disorder
  • Repressed memories may resurface at another point in one’s life
