Chicken pox
Caused by the varicella zoster virus
Spreads through air droplets and blister exudates
Chicken pox symptoms
3 days before chicken pox erupts there may be fever, headache, sore throat, malaise
Small red spots - itchy and infectious
Infectious spots become blisters, which eventually crusts

Adults
Pregnant women
Immunocompromised
Infants below 4 years old
OTC products for chickenpox
For itching
- Calamine lotion
- Crotamiton
- 1+ chlorphenamine
Fever
- Paracetemol
- Avoid ibuprofen due to risk of serious skin reactions
shingles cause
Reactivation of the varicella zoster virus and affects the nerves
Spreads through direct contact only
Shingle symptom characteristics
Blisters will usually appear on one side of the body and will not cross the midline.
It will usually cover the trunk

It is not possible to catch shingles from someone with shingles
BUT
You can catch chickenpox from someone with shingles if you have not had chickenpox before
