Q
  1. Show the bond formation that occurs to produce calcium fluoride. Start with the lewis
dot diagram of atoms, and include the transfer of electrons and ions produced. (3 Marks
    App.)
A

draw diaagram

27
Q

2.
A piece of calcium oxide has a mass of 20.5 g. When heated, a chemical reaction
happens. A solid piece of calcium and oxygen gas are produced. If the solid piece of
calcium has a mass of 9.5 g, what would you predict the mass of the oxygen gas to be?
Explain. (2 marks App.)

A

It would be 11 grams because the law of conversation states that the mass on both sides has to be equal.

28
Q

The stomach contains a solution of hydrochloric acid called gastric juice, which has a normal pH of 2.5. After eating spicy foods and a large coke, the pH of your stomach
drops to a pH of 0.5.
a. You have two items in your medicine cabinet: Mg(OH), and H2CO2. Which medication would you take to bring your stomach pH back to normal? Explain
your reasoning by discussing the type of reaction that occurs. (2 marks App.)

A

I would use Mg(OH)2 because it is a base. In order for you to neutralize an acid you need to use a base the reaction would be neutralization.

29
Q

b. Does this increase or decrease the acidity of your stomach? Explaining by
indicating the relationship between pH and acidity/basicity. (2 marks)

A

It will decrease the acidity in your stomach because to neutralize something you need a PH of 7. If the Ph is 2.5 then obviously when you neutralize it to 7 you will gain acidity.
