Chemical Quantities And Reactions Flashcards
Moles
-In chemistry, small particles such as atoms, molecules or ions are counted using moles.
-1 mole = 6.02 x 1023
i.e. a mole of anything is 6.02 x 1023 of
something (atoms, molecules, ions)
6.02 x 1023 is known as Avogadro’s number (2 decimal places)
Molar mass
Molar mass is defined as the mass of a compound (g) divided by the amount of substance (mol) i.e. the units are in g/mol.
Equation for concentration
N=concentration in litres x volume in litres
Equation for dilutions
C1xv2=c2xv2
Equilibrium
-occurs when the rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the reverse reaction
-concentration is not changing
Kc equation
Products over reactants
Le chateliers principle
If a stress is applied to a system in dynamic equilibrium, the system will adjust to relieve that stress.
Dynamic equilibrium
If a stress is applied to a system in dynamic equilibrium, the system will adjust to relieve that stress.
What will happen to the equlibrium if there is a decrease in pressure(increased volume )
-decrease In pressure favours the side with most moles.equilibrium shifts to the left
What happens to the equilibrium is there is an increase in pressure(decrease volume)
Increase in pressure favours the side with fewest molest.Equlibrium swifts to the right
Effect of temperature on equlibrium
If forward reaction is exoteric the reverse reaction is endo
